Door-2-Math Leap-Ahead Program

The Leap Ahead program is designed for the student who has always received good grades in math and wants to be prepared for the next level whether it's a challenging high school, a top tier university, or an AP class. This program is also intended for the "A" student in a smaller school where grading may not be as strict as in larger schools with dedicated classes for advanced students.

Methodology

A student entering the Leap Ahead program usually has very few gaps in the math foundation and has reasonably good study and test taking skills. A few inefficient habits typically lower her grades to the low A - high B range.

The Leap Ahead program can last anywhere between 3 months and 2 years depending on the end goal. The program starts with a very brief shoring up of math foundation (2-4 weeks) and quickly moves on to study and test taking skills and introduction of new subjects ahead of the class. Grades move up to high A usually within 2 weeks of the start of the program.

Of all of the programs, this program is the most goal-oriented. Student's goals range from staying ahead of peers, to making sure they are not behind students at other top local schools, to having the math background to gain admission to top tier universities.

Case Study

Freshman Victor (not his real name) of Catalina Foothills High came to the program with a 3.8 overall GPA and frustrating experience of  ‘my math grade of B- does not match my understanding.”  Dr. Pan assisted Victor in pinpointing the inefficiency of his learning cycles and his lack of attention to details.  Within two weeks, Victor scored a 96% and a 100% on his two math tests.  Working closely with Victor’s parents, Dr. Pan then advised them to develop a comprehensive plan to maximize Victor’s chance of getting into an ivy-league university.

To Math Motivated Parents,

I first found Dr. Feenix Pan from an Internet search, looking for qualified math education.  My daughter is 12 year old and in 8th grade.  Despite getting A’s in math, she was extremely lacking in her math confidence.  Math was perceived as confusing and mysterious; her A’s require hours of work at home.  Homework was frequently associated with tears and extreme frustration, for both of us.  I found the teaching in school lacking in organization and felt that math is a poorly taught subject in most schools.  I sought help in June of 2007 because I believe that math is a fundamental building block for Alyssa’s future. I needed an expert to help make math logical and to teach Alyssa problem solving skills that will take her to the next level.  My goals are for her to be comfortable with math and to be able to achieve all that she could, in college preparation and future career planning.  I have known many smart young men and women whose career dreams are crushed because of poor math preparation.  Getting C’s in college chemistry, physics and calculus certainly would strongly discourage careers in engineering, medicine, veterinary medicine and all sciences.

Alyssa and parents all attended the 3-hour assessment session with Dr. Pan.  At the end of the session, Dr. Pan had figured out Alyssa’s strength and weakness.  She presented a plan for improvement and we signed up.  I had to admit to some uncertainty initially, having just met Dr. Pan.  However, after just 4 weekly sessions, I observed that Dr. Pan is very able to communicate with Alyssa; math is made understandable.  The positive results are certainly a lot faster than I expected.  Dr. Pan is a committed educator and advocate for Alyssa’s excellence.  She even called Alyssa at a payphone in the middle of a national park while on vacation in July, worrying about giving Alyssa support for assigned homework.

No only have my initial goals been achieved, Dr. Pan has exceeded these goals.  I am also very impressed with Dr. Pan’s genuine concern not only for the math ability, but the psychological well being of her students.   Alyssa passed her Algebra 1 testing easily 2 months after working with Dr. Pan and was placed in 9th Grade Geometry.  She now needs no help from parents in doing homework, thinks her class is easy and studies independently for her tests.  She got an A on Geometry this semester with absolutely no help at home.  Alyssa is certainly extremely proud of this.  She has continued her weekly session with Dr. Pan and they have moved onto more difficult algebra concepts that past schoolings have missed.  As we draw closer to our end goal date, Dr. Pan is now helping to map out the math needs for Alyssa in high school.

I highly recommend Dr. Feenix Pan.  She is a great motivator and math fear conqueror, helping her student reach their full potential.   She is also an excellent parent communicator.  She would be an excellent ally in any child’s math education.  She has certainly helped shape Alyssa’s future.

Sincerely,

“Dr. Pan continually impressed us with her dynamic energy, often going way out of her way to help our daughter gain confidence. Of all the opportunities that we had to bring positive influences into her life, Dr. Pan ranks at the top.- Eric B., M.D. and father of a Sabino High Junior
